History of Our Lady of the Rosary Kindergarten

Our Association was formed in August 1998 to maintain and manage the existing Our Lady of the Rosary Kindergarten following the decision of the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish to cease management and operation of their kindergarten effective December 1998, after over 15 years of operation.  The Association became incorporated in January 1999.

Many families were affected by the pending closure and parents and interested community members met in August 1998 and elected a management committee with its immediate aim to keep the kindergarten open for the 1999 year and beyond. With the assistance of many people, including OLR Parish, OLRSchool and the Department of Families, Youth and Community Care, we were able to open our doors in January 1999 with maximum attendance in both groups. In June 2000 we moved to the new OLR Early Childhood Centre, where we lease a room and playground from OLR School on a commercial basis. This enables us to have all the benefits that a modern, purpose built kindergarten and playground has to offer.

Our Kindergarten room and playground have been designed in consultation with the Crèche and Kindergarten Association and the Department of Families, Youth and Community Care. Affiliation with the Creche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland enables us to apply for subsidies and grants as well as providing comprehensive guidelines to establish and maintain a kindergarten with high standards (with respect to child / staff ratios, equipment and building and education needs).

In July 2001 we achieved provisional affiliation with the Creche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland and are now fully affiliated. This assures us access to government subsidy towards wages costs. We are very proud of this achievement and look forward to a long and healthy relationship with C&K.
